032Name : Laura Lucía Ferrer Zamudio (aka Kikyz 1313 )
Place of birth: Querétaro, México

Black Cat: Hi Laura, tell us something about your life…
Kikyz 1313 :Think there’s not so many important things in my life that could be mentioned, I was born in an industrial growing city in México and I growth with an average middle class family, with a standard education, as everyone else in here, I don’t consider my self special just for having drawing skills. Think I just do for life what I love most and I’m earning money for it.

B.C.: How much does family influence your work?
K. 1313: My family if actually doesn’t influence directly in my work, think It was very important in my first introduction to art, like seeing my mother painting as a hobbie, the early visits to museums, the books of art in my house, attending to art classes during my childhood, etc. My family also, with any type of impositions, propelled me to take the art career as a lifetime profession.

B.C.: Did you attend art college or are you self-taught artist?
K. 1313: I did attend to an Art College, but in due to the low quality of the education, I rather to consider my self as a self-taught artist.

B.C.: Name three artists you’d like to be compared to.
K. 1313: I think It’s not proper to talk about comparisons, I’m more of the idea that the artist’s work it’s always influenced by the intertextuality of life, which goes since the childhood’s memories, through music, images, collective experiences and even words or phrases that sticks in our memory and consequently influences in the final result of the artwork. If I must talk about influences, think mine would start since Albrecht Dürer engravings till Vania Zouravliov ink drawings.

B.C.: How did you decide on this medium?
K. 1313: I knew the amazing work of Shohei Otomo and I decided to make some experiments with ink, but in my case I stick to the use of technical pens.

B.C.: Is there symbolic imagery in your work?
K. 1313: Yes, there’s a presence of symbolic imagery in my work, however this symbols have been created as a result of my personal experience with them, for example, the use of flowers and printed fabrics as reminiscent objects of the art noveau aesthetics.

047B.C.: “Cadere Innocens” …What is unique about this series?
K. 1313: This is a unique series, cause it’s about the reconfiguration of innocence, which comes through erotic suggestions and also by exposing a violent dead in the child’s bodies, thanks to this, innocence is decontextualized from it’s regular parameters to be inserted into a poetics of abjection.

B.C.: What is your favourite creation among the “cadaveres esquicio”?
K. 1313: Think I don’t have a particular favorite in my work, each artwork in this series it’s part of a progress, like a prelude to a better defined style in my work, an improvement in composition, color and technique. I always try to overcome the oldest piece with the new one I’m doing. But think in Cadáveres esquicio, a very important piece would be Seductive Infancy, cause it’s the piece that propelled the urge to create my current series, Cadere Innocens.

B.C.: What do you think about taxidermy?
K. 1313: About the art of taxidermize animals, I think is one of the thing I admire most, It’s another way to bring to life the dead bodies, to immortalize them, actually It’s kind of a dream of mine to be taxidermized when I die, like one of my favorite movies of all time with the same title; taxidermy.

B.C.: What is your dream project?
K. 1313: As a matter of fact, I don’t have any future dream project, I’m more of the idea of living in the present, and any idea that comes to me and I want to carry out, I just find the way and the resources I need to accomplish it, and I do it.

B.C.: Thanks Kikyz 1313…good luck with your work!
