MIGRATION

SOON ON XLEGION.NET

The Harvester Oil on Canvas• Tell us about your art, the mediums that you work with and how you like to work…

Ok well, I like to work in oils, due to the fact that they blend so well and give off that
fantastic contrast of colours, not to say that other mediums don't but oils work the best for me. I like to work by myself mostly ha-ha sounds anti-social doesn't it, I am really a friendly bloke but, I need to be by myself to get where I want to be.

• Do you have a "typical" or preferred way of approaching a painting? What rituals do you use to put yourself in the mood to paint?

I constantly get these thoughts of how to manipulate flesh and forms; I get ideas whilst doing everyday normal stuff like doing like going to the shops to buy beers or something, or walking around just observing life. If I get a really strong idea that makes me want to transfer it onto canvas, I usually seek a photo or photos, not to copy but, just to back up my imagination, I like to work with reality as well as my own direction.

• What's the greatest challenge you face when you paint something not found in nature? How do you "flesh out" a creature that exists only in your head?

The greatest challenge of painting things you don't see in everyday life mmmm, that's a tough one, I guess that is the most fun for me, I just trust my instincts, I try to work with the mediums as much as I can, I tend to get new ideas beaming through the paint, it would be rude not to work with them, I try and keep it constructed but spontaneous, it's exciting for me it keeps me interested.

• In which way do you express your dark side? When did you first discover your dark side? How?

Where did the attraction to the dark side come ha-ha sounds like star wars, I don't know really I have always felt like an outcast, I just daydream constantly, things in the world just affect me I guess.
It might be easier to read my artist statement.
My artwork is surrounded by a constant fear of society crumbling towards a self destruction I create a world which excites me a world for where everyone is exposed displaying raw emotions, emotions that are rising from oppression. Beings which are forced into a corrupted state of living are becoming aware, this allows them to shed their dead motions, and they are reborn into a new life, rising towards freedom.
The best way I have always explained my works are the three words……..

“Death becoming life”

I hope this helps.

• Does the pain, blood, anger and sadness in your paintings come from personal experience? Does painting act as a cathartic experience for you?

I think so yeah, I mean I am always affected by the torn worlds of others but, I use my own personal visions on life too, my frustrations within life play a big part of why I paint. I like to turn a bad situation into a new flourishing escape and give the nameless a voice.

• Do you hope your art sends the viewer a message? What do you hope people take away after viewing your art?

I don't really know, I love to paint it gives me a release and an outlet to channel things, to get a reaction is a great thing, even if they hate it.

• Which is the meaning of your painting “Gather The Fuse”? it seems so complex..Can you explain it?

Gather the Fuse, well it's about temptation and the build up to a change, gathering the fuse and then finally lighting it to realise you have unleashed a disruptive beast which will destroy many paths, it could be fine for a momentary binge but, the destruction will hurt many, it's about selfishness and self destruction I guess.

• What is your personal favorite creation? Why?

My personal favourite creation, I kind of like Destructions wall, it's a pretty big painting and it's staring at you as soon as you wake up.

• What artists do you admire? Which one has had the most influence on you?

I love the old masters, their technique is such an amazing thing, and I can really appreciate their dedication.
So life itself and the old masters have inspired me the most, but I am constantly getting new inspiration from all areas, for example music and films, they are two great loves of mine. But as for artists I like well, to name a few.... Francis Bacon, Giger, Dali, Bosch, Hogarth, Chris Mars, Suzzan Blac, Chet Zar, Freda Kahlo, I just brought a painting from David Anthony Magitis, his art is wild!!! There are loads and loads of artists I like I can't name them all, but you get the idea, I feel bad for not giving them all a mention.
If you’re on Facebook or Myspace look at my friends list there is a whole stack of talent on there!

• Between your paintings I’ve seen a portrait of Suzzan Blac, isn’t it? Suzzan aka The Goddess of Gore is a great painter and a reason of inspiration for every artist who likes this kind of painting, but what does she represent for you?

Ahhhh Suzzan Blac, she is just incredible, I first spoke to her on myspace a while back, I just said hi to her and very quickly worked out that she is one of the most kindest, talented people EVER, she has a great mind, I could chat to her all day she has been very supportive towards me and my art, she is a highly valued friend I have all the time in the world for her, she creates some of the passionate art the world has ever seen, she does it without lying, her commitment and skills are flawless.
The portraits came about whilst speaking to her one day, she asked me if I was ever stuck with an idea could I take a time out to paint her, well I stopped what I was doing right away and got busy, I have never done a portrait before ha-ha due to the damage I might cause, people would more than likely want to give me a bloody nose, but when Suzzan asked me I knew it was a ticket to ride, whatever I did would not bother her, it was a great time, she owns the piece now it's hanging in her studio, I am stoked.

• Your paintings are so original and scary. Would you ever consider taking a job in the entertainment industry designing monsters for horror films?

Oh yeah for sure, I would love to do some designing bringing creations to life, it would be a real experience to get involved with film.

• Where will we see your art in the future?

I have recently been involved in group show at The Congregation Gallery and I am hopefully doing another group show with them in July called The Black Plague, I have a piece on show and for sale at The Congregation Gallery.
I am also a part of Keith Wigdor presents surrealism now www.surrealismnow.com Keith is a great man, his knowledge knows no boundaries, check out his website for everything to do with surrealism the 21st century, you wont be disappointed.

• What are your dreams/plans/goals for the future?

Plans and dreams, well I would love a show in the U.K but it's a real challenge to do anything over here, maybe I am looking in the wrong places but, I seem to contact people all the time and barely even receive a reply, maybe it is the subject matter who knows, the states have been mega supportive though, maybe it's time to get on a plane and venture over the pond.
As music is a HUGE part of my life, I have always had a dream involving album covers; it has been an idea for as long as I can remember. All I want to do is make a stable living; I am not after a flash house and riches, if I can paint for the rest of my life and do shows etc...That is all that matters to me, working a job on the side is great for me, just as long as I can be involved with the creative scenes.
Thanks for the interview and thanks for reading, much respect.
Adam.
