Name : Nanoo G.
Place of birth : Hell
Black Cat aka Didi: Hi Nanoo, tell me something about your daily life…what do you like?..and what makes you feel in peace?
Nanoo G.: Hey dear ! Thanx for stopping by here and spending a little moment with me. Pretty glad to appear thru your website ! Thanx a lot.
Well, my daily life is a mix of being a mom, a wife, a woman and an artist. And I love it. I like life in general even some days are sometimes crappy n darker than others, but nevermind… I'm alive, breathing and that's it. Fighting against ghosts of past is also a part of myself, and I have to admit I like it. I admit I do love sorrow and melancholy.
What makes me feel happy is being with my man and my kids, but what makes me feel in peace is being alone. Simply alone with great sounds in my ears...
B.C.: I know that you are a traditional painter, a photographer and you have shown us your skill with photomanipulation. So …why art? What does art mean to you?
N.G.: Art is a language for me. I didn't choose it. It's like that and I've never asked myself why I choose this way to express things actually. I like it. Point is ! I began with drawing when I was a kid, then painting, then digital drawing, then photography, then photomanipulation. Well, it seems to be weird ! Ya, it could… but I can't use only one of them ! It'll piss me off, it'll be so boring for me. I need to 'touch' at different mediums. Life is too short to stay comfortably shaped in one mold…
Name: Markus Vogt
Place of birth: Würzburg, Germany
Black Cat: Hi Markus, for the beginning can you, please, tell me what attracted you toward art and when did you discover your talent?
Markus Vogt: Painting or all other sorts of creative work was always one of my main preferences since my childhood. I do no more know if there was a specific reason for this or anything else which attracted me to art. Everybody has certain strengths and weaks and i realized very early that my strenghts would be more towards the creative things and less towards the pure technical way of thinking.
Working digitally I started out in 2003 with vector graphics orientated programs like CorelDraw. Shortly later i became interested in 3d modeling and rendering packages like Cinema 4d, Vue, Bryce, Poser and so on. In combination with Photoshop those are my main focus now and the perfect way to express my artstyle.
B.C.: Which is your artistic background and what artists and art helped you to define your own style?
M.V.: I do not have any typical art school education. And in my opinion that is also not really nescessary for each and every person who wants to work in a creative way. Of course it has a lot of benefits if you ever went to art school but artists who don´t are also being able to produce great artworks if they are willing to learn a few basic rules and adapting those to their own creations later. As long as you are convinced from what you are doing and keep a clear aim in mind then you can achieve almost anything. It was not an easy process for me as i am completely self taught in the digital medium from the beginning via lots of different books, video tutorials, magazines and of course practical experimentations over and over again.
I am inspired by some of the classic painters and illustrators like HR Giger, Z. Beksinski or John Berkey as well as from some of the fantastic artists of today like David Ho, Meats Meier, Yann Souetre, Yang Xueguo, Allen Wei Ming or Paul Gerrard. My favourite photographer is Yann Arthus-Bertrand with his famous "Earth From Above" series. Last but not least "Earth" can be considered as THE art piece itself.
William Harvey (13 July 1796 – 1866) was a British wood-engraver and illustrator.
Born at Newcastle upon Tyne, Harvey was the son of a bath-keeper. At the age of 14, he was apprenticed to Thomas Bewick, and became one of his favorite pupils. Bewick describes him as one "who both as an engraver & designer, stands preeminent" at his day (Memoir, p. 200). He engraved many woodblocks for Bewick's Aesop's Fables (1818).
Name: Elizabeth Winnel
Place of birth: Scarborough, Ontario, Canada
Black Cat aka Didi: Hi Elizabeth, tell me a little about you…your passions, your vices and your indispensable habits…
Elizabeth Winnel: My passions are roughly three. I love to make art, talk about art, read about art, think about art, visit art, see art, argue about art. Art in all is capacities.
Another passion is animals, and specifically companion animals. I often rescue stray animals in hopes of finding their homes and in other cases finding them new homes.
I grew up with many animals at home; dogs, cats, rabbits, turtles, geckos, snakes, fish, hamsters, guinea pigs, mice, etc. Right now, I have dogs, a cat and snakes.
My third passion is fresh vegetarian cuisine. I've been vegan for about 9 years. I love fresh, raw veggies.
B.C.: Which is your artistic background?
E.W.: My parents enrolled me in art classes when I was 9 years old. I grew up taking these classes. In high school, I was enrolled in many art classes, and I also attended regular art classes at the McLaughlin Art Gallery, in Oshawa Ontario to study life drawing to help with college applications. I attended Fanshawe College in London, Ontario for 4 years. One year was spent in Liberal Arts taking courses outside of art. After Fanshawe College, I moved to Savannah, Georgia, USA to earn a Bachelor of Fine Art in Illustration. After finishing my degree I moved to Brooklyn, New York where I spent 2 years. I met many wonderful people there, including artists, gallerists, directors and many other creative individuals. It was very inspiring to visit artists studios, live with other artists, to draw on their motivation and their ambition, their feedback and drive. It is a real energy that keeps you working and striving for more. I miss living in Brooklyn very much, I miss my great friends.
